Aqua ‘N Green was founded by professionals in the fields of marine biology and finance, with origins in shrimp breeding ventures in Sri Lanka. Through humble beginnings as a family business, Aqua Hatcheries Lanka (Pvt) Ltd, the predecessor to Aqua ‘N Green was incorporated in 1991 during the early years of Sri Lanka's shrimp farming industry. Within a short period of time Aqua Hatcheries Lanka became a leading supplier of post larvae to farmers in the country and transformed into one of Sri Lanka's most technologically advanced organization in aquaculture, contributing significantly to development of the aquaculture industry by initiating marine fish breeding and farming, and introducing environmentally sustainable farming models to local fishing communities as an alternate livelihood.
We source sustainable seafood
Aqua ‘N Green Ltd is dedicated for Seafood processing & export. We benefit from being located close to some of Sri Lanka's most productive fishing grounds and fishery harbours which utilize fleets of modern boats specialized for tuna and swordfish fishing.
We carefully select and source directly from one day boat fishers, who are often based within 15km of our plant (Such as the Cod-Bay Fisheries Harbour), but include the North Eastern coast. Our fresh chilled products are then packed and shipped on the same day, thus guaranteeing our customers receive fresh seafood every day.
We ensure safety of our products through our thorough quality control process
We assure our customers full traceability of products from source, processing to packing. Our seafood processing plant is a state of the art facility registered with the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources of Sri Lanka (DFAR), and is HACCP compliant. We have an in house laboratory for monitoring all critical chemical, physical and microbiological parameters, in accordance to HACCP manuals developed by our qualified QC staff and industry experts. Our comprehensive QC system together with good management practices at the production floor, and skilled and committed staff, allow us to ensure quality and safety of our products.
DFAR has implemented clear policies, guidelines, and an effective EU endorsed legal framework to monitor all fisheries activities. Requirements such as Vessel Monitoring Systems (VMS) and catch certificates have allowed Sri Lanka to eliminate illegal and unregulated fishing and ensures traceability of our products. We source from vessels which practice long line fishing and dolphin safe fishing practices.
